The crinkle of a page being turned, the quiet chatter amongst artisans and friends, and then the rustle of clothes as people mingled about, waiting…

These sounds are precisely what were heard at the Appleton Museum of Art, Sunday afternoon on April 18, as the museum hosted the 2010 “Imprints” magazine unveiling.

The “Imprints” magazine is a literary and arts magazine created and produced by CFCC students. The unveiling event was used to release the magazine to the public for the first time.

“It's nice to know that there are people in the community that are interested enough to come and see what it is that we’ve been spending our time doing,” said Sabrina Noble, 26, liberal arts major, and artist in “Imprints”.

To celebrate the release of the paper, students were given the chance to read sections of their work in the ceremony, while a PowerPoint showcasing student artwork displayed in this years “Imprints” issue, played in the background.

“I really enjoy hearing the different artists, and I think allowing this part in the ceremony is very essential, because it gives the family a chance to see, as well as be proud of, the artwork our loved ones have worked so hard on,” said Jess Knight, 21, family member to an “Imprints” artist.

A crowd filled the Appleton Café after the ceremony. During this time, the artists from “Imprints” magazine socialized with the rest of the community over refreshments.

As this was her last year working with “Imprints”, Melissa Bussinger, 23, CFCC communications major and “Imprints” Editor-in-chief feels that she ended her work with the magazine on an amazing note.

“There were about 119 people here today, when originally it was estimated only 75 would come out today, so turn-out wise I think it was really good,” said Bussinger

Labeling the day a “success,” Dr. Cassandra Robison, associate professor of communications, and faculty advisor for the “Imprints” literary arts magazine, said, “It exceeded my expectations. I think the excitement for student work in the arts, writing and photography was just extraordinary.”

Robinson praises Bussinger for the success of “Imprints”.

“I’m so grateful to Melissa for leading the staff and doing such a fabulous job this year,” Robison said. “Every step of the way Melissa has met bench marks of excellence and today she met another and exceeded it.”

Relieved that the issue has finally made it out to the community, Bussinger said, “I hope next year they pull off another good issue, and with Dr. Robison at the head of “Imprints” I think the magazine will continue to be great.”

Set the date for next year’s affair. Same as every year, the “Imprints” magazine unveiling will be held at the Appleton museum, on the third Sunday in April.

“This way the community can learn to expect it, and Appleton can embrace it as part of The College of Central Florida’s experience,” Robison said.
