Neytiri, the Na'vi that Sulley falls for

As we start a new decade, movie-goers have seen an end to a year of good films.

I, myself, go to the movies very often and must say that the last movie I went to see on Dec. 28, 2009 was the best one I had seen all year.

It was captivating. It was colorful. It was Avatar in 3-D.

All I knew going into the theater was that the movie centered around these blue creatures, but by the end of the almost three hour film, I wanted to be one of them. They were, in some way, beautiful. Everything about the movie was beautiful and enchanting.

If you see the movie, I recommend you see it in 3-D. It will only add to the experience.

Basically the story goes like this, humans are on Pandora in search for a mineral worth a lot of money, but the Na'vi (the blue creatures) inhabit the area where the mineral is found.

Jake Sulley, played by Sam Worthington, is a wounded ex-Marine that is sent to gain the trust of the Na'vi by becoming one of them through his own Avatar. The technology used is very futuristic and sci-fi, but it allows him to fall asleep as a human and wake up in the Avatar body.

Sulley learns the ways of the Na'vi while reporting back to the base all of his findings.

As the movie progresses, it is obvious that Sulley is really growing attached to the land and the people, especially Neytiri, a beautiful, yet very strong and independent woman of the Omaticaya clan.

Col. Miles Quaritch, head of security on the base, becomes aggravated with Sulley and the Avatar program because it runs counter to his mission of mining the planet and keeping the humans safe. Quaritch makes a rash decision which forces Sulley to choose a side and fight for what he believes is right.

I can easily say that I saved the best movie of 2009 for last.

James Cameron, writer and director of Avatar, spent over 10 years putting his ideas together for this blockbuster hit. I definitely give him kudos.

Cameron did an excellent job of creating a masterpiece. The film will keep you wanting more and let your imagination run wild in a world that you will want to jump into.
