The band members of The Appreciation Post bask in the spotlight

Music is something that I am very passionate about.

As I am walking into the store to buy a new record, or as I am waiting for the songs to finish downloading to my laptop there are often tears of excitement coming out of my eyes.

That was the case with the new EP from The Appreciation Post titled "work/sleep".

The EP can be downloaded for free on theappreciationpost.com. The free download includes the songs, artwork and lyrics. It's free and it only takes about two minutes to download.

Since I have been a fan of The Appreciation Post for a few years I knew I wouldn't be let down.

Their "killer riffs" and catchy choruses can keep my attention for hours. Plus any band with a synthesizer, which is basically a fancy keyboard that produces a variety of fun sounds, automatically earns at least 4,000 cool points with me.

"Work/sleep" begins with the single "The Beating of a Lifetime". A silly video for this song can be found on YouTube.

Even though the song starts off with the lyrics "life sucks and then you die", I still feel happy while singing this song. The music is upbeat enough to make this unhappy song feel fun.

The vocalist, Jim Keaney, seems to yell some of the lyrics rather than sing them in "The Beating of a Lifetime". As he is expressing "enough is enough" I can really feel his honest and raw emotions.

The EP continues with two more songs that seem to be about negative things but still somehow keep me in a good mood.

"I'm No Sure Thing" and "Doom & Gloom" both appeared on The Appreciation Post's first EP, "Brighter Sides". The songs have since been re-recorded and believe me when I say that they sound much better.

The fourth song on "work/sleep" puts a smile on my face throughout the entire song. It's one of those songs that's so relatable that I can imagine myself in every scenario described.

He sings about about quirky things such as the "Sunday morning apartment cleanse".

Keaney is defending himself for never writing songs about his girlfriend. He claims that he never sings about the relationship "because everything seems to be perfect," and "no songs is good songs."

A short song, 37 seconds to be exact, titled "Better My Future" is placed in between the two most unique songs on the album. The song features a repeated verse that includes a chant of "Work! Sleep! Work! Sleep!"

"Fear of Loss" is about, well, the fear of loss. It's a song that I can easily relate to: actually I think it's a song that anyone can easily relate to.

When you're in a relationship "everyone's got advice to give".

Singing along to this song makes me wish that I could share the lyrics with every friend who has tried to give me relationship advice when I didn't ask for it.

The last song on this album is a perfect example of why I love The Appreciation Post. "Always kept it real, never lost our passion" is something that Keaney repeats in "Moving Backwards".

The Appreciation Post is a down to earth band; the members are nice guys who just want to make it in the music business without cheating like other bands do.

"Work/sleep" is an album that has strong lyrics and strong music. It's catchy but the lyrics are not cheesy like the songs on your favorite pop radio station.

The songs were written by an honest band that is not afraid to sing about the truth. You won't find sugarcoated lyrics on the ‘work/sleep' EP.

The Appreciation Post was able to put out a seven song EP that keeps me wanting more and more.
