One movie that you might have missed out on in 2009 is "500 Days of Summer". It was released on DVD on Dec. 22, just in time for the holidays. "500 Days of Summer" is about a greeting card writer who believes in true love, and his love interest, a co-worker of his.

As soon as "500 Days of Summer" begins you are warned that it is a story about love, not a love story.

It is not a typical romantic comedy. It is real. What happens in "500 Days of Summer" is what happens in real life.

You will find yourself as another passenger on the emotional roller coaster that the main character Tom Hansen, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, is on throughout the movie. When he's happy, you feel happy with him, and as soon as he gets upset, you get upset as well.

Everything about the movie is honest. Nothing is sugarcoated.

Tom meets a girl, and believes she is the one he is meant to be with. The girl, Summer Fin, played by Zooey Deschanel, has a strange view on love and she seems to be uninterested in Tom. You will watch Tom on his quest to have Summer as his own. This, however, is not your typical love story.

The soundtrack to the movie is perfect. Throughout the movie you will hear songs from the Smiths, Regina Spektor, Feist and even Hall & Oates. Regina Spektor's song "Hero" is heard during one of the most heartbreaking scenes of the movie.

It is impossible to believe that this song was not written especially for this scene. As a matter of fact it feels like every song heard in "500 Days of Summer" was written especially for the movie.

The pairing of the actors Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel is even better than the soundtrack. Zooey Deschanel's quirky acting immediately makes the audience fall in love with her and her character Summer.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has a boyish charm that allows viewers to believe everything he says about love. Sometimes you forget that he's acting and that he is not actually Tom Hansen.

There are plenty of moments that will have you laughing out loud. Tom's friend McKensie, played by Geoffrey Arend, will make you laugh the most; pay attention when he is on screen!

It's a romantic comedy, so of course there are moments that might make you cry. Make sure there is a box of tissues nearby!

Even though "500 Days of Summer" does not have a fairytale ending, don't let that stop you from watching it! I actually love the ending of the movie.

"500 Days of Summer" offers a fresh and unique view on the romantic comedy. If you are ready for an honest, funny, entertaining and quirky movie then go rent "500 Days of Summer"!
